Limerick Challenge
|
Got rhymes??
On Sunday, March 14th at 3 p.m. at the West Tisbury Library will hold the first annual Vineyard Limerick Challenge. Back in 1924 Nantucket issued a challenge for limericks based on its tricky name. This is to announce our challenge for limericks based on Vineyard locales.
Need suggestions or inspiration? Stop by the WT Library and pickup your entry form or print out the form below. Entries will be judged by some incorruptible card-carrying denizen such as yourself.
Free. Green refreshments will be served. For more information, call the Library at 508-693-3366. |

March Doldrums? Try Limericks. |
The West Tisbury Library will have its first annual Limerick Challenge on Sunday, March 14 th, at three PM. Admission is "one limerick". It can be the one you first heard in school, or perhaps another under more adult circumstances. Risque or romantic, the challenge is for one that has to do with the Vineyard. Format is classic; this from the Poe Festival last month at the Library: |

Cards are available at your Town library, Alley’s, and Howes House with complete instructions. Bring them to the door where, if you are entering the Challenge, they will be given to the Jury. You may choose to read your contribution (challenge or not), or have it read. While originated by the West Tisbury Library, it is also a response to the surge of Nantucket Limericks over several years. We have many more "places" or "events" than they do. See the list of many of the possible names in today's paper. After all of the smoke (steam?) has blown away, the Library plans to publish this collection annually with proceeds to benefit West Tisbury Library. According to Wikipedia, Limericks can (and maybe should) in themselves challenge the world of Emily Post. Staff members will be equipped with perfumed water pistols for anything that gets out of, uh, whatever. For more information on the Vineyard Challenge, visit the Library’s website at www.westtisbury library.org or call the Library at 508-693-3366.
