Library Cards
Library Card Patrons will be issued 2 library cards upon presentation of identification showing current name and address such as a valid driver’s license, an imprinted bank check or a West Tisbury tax bill. Library cards are free to residents of Massachusetts and/or West Tisbury tax payers. There is a $10 charge per card for all others. At the age of 8, children may sign up for their own library card. The West Tisbury Library is interested in having materials returned, not in collecting fines. Unlike many libraries, we do NOT charge fines for overdue books, magazines and audio cassettes. However, fines for overdue videos and DVDs are $1 per day the library is open. Books, magazines and audio cassettes circulate for two weeks. These items are automatically renewed for two weeks if not on reserve. Videos and DVDs circulate for one week. There is a limit of six items per card. These are not automatically renewed. An overdue notice will be sent after a book has been out for four weeks, and a DVD for one week. When any item has been out for two months, a long overdue notice is sent and a hold will be placed on the patron’s card until the item is returned or paid for. Items may be renewed either by phone, email or in person. All information regarding library materials circulated to particular borrowers is available only to library staff and the individual borrower. You must have your library card with you to check out items or use the computers for internet access. We will be happy to hold your books until you can go home and get your card. There is a $1 charge for replacement cards for lost or damaged cards. Patrons are responsible for all materials checked out to them and to their minor children. |
