The West Tisbury Free Public Library is proud to announce that the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners has awarded the Library a provisional construction grant of $2,982,544. |
|
Getting to this point has taken the work of hundreds of people in the community, so today we can all celebrate. The grant award puts the West Tisbury Library in high gear for the next 9 months. The building committee now goes back for another round of community input, revising the preliminary designs that were funded by the Friends. The Foundation will be hard at work raising the necessary matching funds by the end of the year. And finally, at Town Meeting of April 2012, the town will need to give its approval and appropriate its share of the funds. We can celebrate today, but then we need all hands on deck . |

“West Tisbury has an extraordinary characteristic, that I don’t believe could be claimed for any other town, that I know of anyway,” he said. “Eighty-nine per cent of the population of West Tisbury has a library card. You can double check that with the librarian.” |
